Muqtada al-Sadr
Why could Muqtada al-Sadr be Mabus?
Moqtada al-Sadr is a son of the Grand Ayat Allah Muhammad Sadiq al-Sadr, a prominent Iraqi Shia leader who was killed in 1999 along with two of his other sons.
Hardly known outside Iraq, and lacking the religious education and degrees required by Shia doctrines, Moqtada al-Sadr bases his religious authority on his lineage.
His army is called "al-Mahdi army" took over the holy city of Najaf, Iraq on April 6th.
On 28 March 2004 the US occupation authorities ordered the closure of al-Hawza newspaper, published by Muqtada al-Sadr, alleging it was inciting violence.
Muqtada al-Sadr has braced for a US led invasion of his small army in Iraq. However the US must consider that he has won the approval of many sects in Iraq, spreading far more than Muqtada al-Sadr father did.
