Why could John Roberts be Mabus?
John Roberts spent 14 years in private law practice before he was a judge on the United States Court of Appeals for the District of Columbia Circuit. He held positions in Republican administrations in the U.S. Department of Justice and Office of the White House Counsel.
He was nomated to fill the vacancy which would be left by the Associate Justice Sandra Day O'Connor on June 19. 2005. After the death of Chief Court Justice William H. Rehnquist, he was nominated for Chief Justice.
John Roberts is the seventeenth Chief Court Justice of the United States.
