Howard Dean is a Yale-educated physician. Dean stunned the entire democratic primary field by placing first in the money contest -- having raised more than $7.6 million for the quarter (including over $800,000 online in one day alone!) -- and he boasted that his insurgent campaign signed up more than 47,000 volunteers in the same period (and more than 550,000 by the end of 2003).
